Water Seepage in East Hampton
Challenge
Our customer had water seeping into the basement despite the fact he had a french drain already installed. After observation by Eric Greenberg, he found significant cracks in the floor, high humidity (despite a big box store dehumidifier running), some mold, and two small crawlspaces. After questioning the customer, who was an architect, he decided he wanted to make the basement/crawlspaces look better as well as increase the insulation.
Solution
To solve this issue we first replaced the existing French drain system with our patented WaterGuard system with laterals to address the floor cracks. We then encapsulated the crawlspaces to reduce the humidity naturally. To address the mold, we applied CleanStart Plus and installed a SaniDry Sedona air quality machine to keep humidity low and prevent the mold from reappearing. For increased insulation in the crawlspace, we installed SilverGlo on the walls of the crawlspace and Terrablock on the floor. BrightWall was then put on the basement walls to make it look better while also acting as a vapor barrier to help keep humidity low. Finally, we installed ThermalDry flooring to give the basement a finished look, as well as keep humidity low and make the floor warmer than regular tile. This customer's background as an architect allowed him to have a deeper understanding of our systems and products, leading him to choose Healthy Basement Systems as his preferred basement contractor.
