Mice Removed and Crawl Space Encapsulated in Long Beach, NY

Challenge

The client purchased the house only a few months ago, then discovered that he had a mouse infestation in the home's crawl space. Crawl spaces are damp and unhealthy; mold thrives, and insects and critters of all kinds love wet materials.

Solution

To prevent any more mice from getting in, we sprayed insulating spray foam around the perimeter of the crawl space, above the foundation line and in every joist bay, sealing all gaps.

We then removed all the moldy drop ceilings where mice could hide, and thoroughly cleaned up all mold with CleanStart Plus.

To encapsulate the crawl space, we installed CleanSpace Drainage Matting on the floor, then CleanSpace SilverGlo insulation on the walls, which reflects heat back into the space for energy savings. Finally, we installed CleanSpace Pier Wraps around all the piers.

To drain any water in future, we installed a SmartSump pump. We also installed our patented SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier, which keeps humidity at a set level, eliminates odors, keeps the crawpl space completely dry and without humidity. It never needs to be emptied, just serviced once a year.

The new homeowner was thrilled with their newly clean, dry crawl space, sans mice!

BEFORE: Customer called us in due to finding mice in his new home. The house was used as an office for a business and has a lot of dead wiring in it. The mice were using the wires to easily access hard to reach spots.

BEFORE: Long Beach being close to the water has a high water table. In the right corner can be seen an old sump pump. These cheap contraptions are common. It's a regular bucket with holes in it, with a cheap sump pump sitting on a few bricks. The bricks are used as a stand. There's no lid, so all the vapor from the standing water is adding to the already high moisture in the crawl space.

BEFORE: The crawl space had drop ceilings in it which were covered in mold and felt soft to the touch. There's a good chance that the mice were living inside them.

BEFORE: Near the entrance to the crawl space, a lot of dead wiring can be seen.

AFTER: Our team of experts first removed all the debris in the crawl space. Then we did basic raking to regrade the crawl space. We then sprayed the mold with a high concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide, which kills mold on contact.

AFTER: The drop down ceilings were ripped down and all the debris removed. Then Delta Matting was put down to disperse the water. Our patented CleanSpace 20mil liner was put over the Delta Matting to act as a vapor barrier. The SilverGlo was added onto the walls for insulation purposes and to further reduce moisture coming into the crawl space.

AFTER: The loose wiring, where slack permitted, was attached to the ceiling. On the left side can be seen our SmartSump, a pump designed specifically for crawl spaces, with an airtight lid and an alarm. On the right side is a SaniDry Sedona, an air quality control system, to dehumidify the air (to prevent mold from ever coming back) and to filter the air to greatly reduce the crawl space smell.
