Encapsulating a Crawl Space in Islip Terrace

Challenge

Mr.H had purchased a new home in Islip Terrace just a few months ago. As a new home owner, who was renting in Brooklyn his entire life, he didn't know much about owning a house. Only 3 months after purchaseing the property Mr.H noticed damp, musty smell which seeming to be seeping from beneath his home. As the weather got warmer the smell got stronger. Finally Mr.H decided that something must be done about it. He found Healthy Basement Systems online and just a few days later he had one of our inspectors in his home looking for the source of the problem.

Solution

During the inspection it was found that Mr.H purchased a home with a dirt crawl space. These are common on Long Island and they typically share the same issues. With high humidty levels, due to damp earth exposure and us living on Long Island (surrounded by water), Mr.H had a lot of mold under the house. That was the cause of the smell, but most importantly it was an unhealthy environment to raise a family in.

In the end we encapsulated the crawl space walls, floor, and killed all the mold. The musty smell was instantly reduced and a few days later was gone. Mr.H was extremely happy about the result and such an easily solution.
